Patty Storms' passion for drawing and painting began at a very early age. She has worked in several mediums, including oil, watercolor, pencil, pen and ink, ceramics and photography.
Growing up on the coast of Maine, Patty was deeply impacted by nature and wildlife. In addition to supporting several environmental organizations, Patty has also found in her art a creative venue for expressing her concern and commitment to fostering an understanding and appreciation for all things natural. While her ceramic art captures her interest in marine life, her pencil drawings pull the viewer in: with their quiet steady gaze, her animals seek a conversation about fairness to all living things and the preservation of the earth. Patty has had an equally steady commitment to women’s equality, which she expresses through her portraits of women. Here, she portrays the women’s beauty, strength and dignity, even as they struggle under the weight of oppression and inequity. What ever medium Patty uses, her work is layered with beauty, meaning and passion.
Patty has always worked in the art field. After graduating from Wesleyan University with an Art History degree, she was employed at Christie's and LIGHT Gallery in New York City focusing in 19th and 20th century photography. She later taught ceramics and co-owned, Lakeside Pottery School and Studio, in Stamford , CT with her husband, Morty Bachar. Currently, after their recent move to Lewes, Delaware, Patty and Morty focus their studio business on ceramic and sculpture art restoration and custom made pottery.
